With great warmth and humor, WEST OF HESTER STREET interweaves the dramatized events of the Galveston Movement with the story of a young Jewish peddler who journeys from Russia to Texas. The late Sam Jaffe narrates the immigrant’s heart-warming story. The film has won multiple awards. A Question & Answer session with Filmmakers will follow the film. Free with exhibit admission.

We lost our dear friend award-winning writer and humorist Maryln Schwartz. She suffered from diabetes and its terrible effects. She kept telling me that she wanted to raise money for SOLE SISTERS. I didn’t think anything of it. But in the end she put down Media Projects www.mediaprojects.org as a charity to donate in her memory. She was determined to fulfill her promise. In 1961, the first Peace Corps volunteers set out into all corners of the world, determined to make a difference village by village, person by person. On the eve of the Corps’ 50th anniversary celebration in the nation’s capital, Allen screened excerpts and talked about how the Peace Corps impacted his life. The screening was at the DC JCC.
