Learn about independent film distribution at Media Projects, Inc. working with our marketing and distribution staff, or work with our production assistance program learning how to raise money and get independent films produced.

We have immediate internships available in all areas, including:

  • Marketing/Publicity:
  • Web Marketing:
  • Administrative Intern
  • Graphics/Internet Assistant

As one of our interns you will receive free access to our collection of films and videos and other benefits such as invites to screenings and receptions.† To apply, all candidates must submit an Internship Application form, resume, and references.


Qualifications & Time Commitment

Qualified candidates must demonstrate initiative, good communication skills and strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to work independently under pressure. Familiarity with Internet research, Windows 2000 and the Microsoft Office Suite necessary. Knowledge of and interest in social issue media a plus.

Interns are asked to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Duration is flexible to meet university requirements, but a minimum commitment of three months is optimal. All interns will be required to sign an Internship Letter of Agreement that outlines the duration and schedule of their internship.


Benefits & Compensation

All MPI internship positions are unpaid. However, interns will have the opportunity to work flexible schedules while gaining valuable hands-on experience working with professionals. Interns will have the opportunity to view the films/videos in our catalogue free of charge.


POSITIONS

Marketing Intern-

  • Assist with promotions and community outreach programs.
  • Learn the operations side of the distribution business.
  • Learn the different marketing and outreach techniques of film distribution.
  • Help create materials for media reviewers and web site promotions.
  • Outreach to community-based and academic organizations including academic reviewers and conferences.
  • Produce and mail promotional materials, paste up reviews and maintain department databases and mailing lists.
  • Perform extensive online subject area research.
  • Update and design press kits including the following: paste-ups, research for reviews, photo scans and upkeep of promotional files.
  • Research new opportunities and contact various list-serves and media arts organizations for promotion and publicity of non-theatrical screenings.
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials.
  • Strong research skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail and good verbal and written communication skills necessary.

Fundraising Intern-

  • Develop grant proposals
  • Assist in implementing current grants
  • Research potential funders
  • Graphics/Internet Assistant
  • Develop regular updates to the MPI website that will be approved and sent to our webmistress.
  • Implement new online marketing initiatives.
  • Responsible for photo maintenance, including minor retouching and organization of photo files.
  • Maintain and catalogue digital archives of past promotional materials
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials
  • Good working knowledge of Photoshop
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Help with internet research
  • Develop promotional materials
  • Implement unique Web marketing techniques and help with website upkeep.


Administrative Intern-

  • Assist Office Manager with computer maintenance and security, and maintain computer log and software; maintain office supplies log and upkeep of supply cabinet.
  • Answer phones, field questions and calls; and distribute incoming mail and faxes to staff.
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials.
  • Excellent attention to detail; strong organizational, clerical and computer skills necessary.
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks preferred by not required. Familiarity with computer networking a plus.

Graphics/Website Intern-

  • Develop regular updates to the MPI website that will be approved and sent to our webmistress
  • Implement new online marketing initiatives
  • Responsible for photo maintenance, including minor retouching and organization of photo files.
  • Responsible for creating e-mailers, flyers and other promotional materials as needed
  • Maintain and catalogue digital archives of past promotional materials
  • Perform general office tasks, including copying, filing and mailing materials
  • Good working knowledge of Photoshop
  • Strong attention to detail required
  • Help with internet research
  • Develop promotional materials
  • Implement unique Web marketing techniques and help with website upkeep
